Music Monday... err, Tuesday: You can't rock without sticks!

Finn started out as a very auditory learner. I'm not sure if that is the natural starting point for all kiddos, given our proclivities for language and all, but his learning style has become more kinetic over the last year.

When he was about one, I wanted him to have a real pair of drumsticks. There are lots of cheap, plastic toy drumsticks available. But I wanted him to have some genuine stix. For proper rocking.

So we headed down to the music store and bought a pair. The hippy behind the counter tried to talk us into a pair of "kids" stix. I said to him, "Listen here hippy, I don't want your baby stix for my baby! Hippy, get me the same stix that Travis Barker uses. Now!" They were like $60, made of imported truffela wood, stained with the blood of baby Dodo birds. So I said, "Hippy, get me the cheapest pair of full sized stix you have! Kids gotta pay his dues after all."

These were about $9. They turn any surface into a drum kit. Our favorite is the colander, stew pot, sauce pot set up. Boxes are pretty fun too. And while I originally got them to fulfill Finn's music fix, they have a couple of other advantages.

Number one, they make him 1000 times cuter (in a totally rocken' way). Number two, they are great for improving coordination and strength. Number three, Finn loves sticks - like dirty, nasty, rotting twigs. These are clean and cleanable.
